rose quartz

the wound that became the well

before love was romanticised, it was survival. rose quartz does not teach you to love. it asks you to stop punishing yourself for how you were loved.

for when you are confusing love with debt. when you are mothering what never mothered you.

a stone from this ground

rose quartz is found in tamil nadu. in antiquity, rome imported the stone from two deposits — india and sri lanka. india was not a receiver of rose quartz. it was a source, exporting it outward to the ancient mediterranean world.

it was not a royal or courtly stone in the navaratna tradition. it was a stone of the domestic and the intimate — held by women, worn in personal ritual, kept for grief and for love under strain. the work of opening rather than armouring.

the mythology — before love was romanticised, it was survival — is not a modern reframe. it is a recovery. that history is in the ground this stone came from.

its place is the anahata — the heart. love, compassion, and the long work of grief.
